Our heroes from the last book are back. Vickery is still driving ghost-avoidance vehicles. Castine has moved to DC, still working for the same government agency, which has toned down & cleaned up its act considerably.
The nemesis this time is a mad genius who wants to use ancient Egyptian mystical technology to create a group mind (egregore) which will eventually suck the whole human race into it - oops!
There are some recurring characters back from the 1st book, as well as new characters. I've realized, 1 thing that really defines the quality of Powers' work is the depth & personality of his supporting characters: the henchmen, allies, stooges, etc. They are usually recognizable characters who sometimes do things out of context, like real people.
Again, an enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend reading these in sequence.
