The Half Life of Empire

This is a must-read article, it makes so much sense:
The Half Life of Empire
Economics from the Top Down
Blair Fix
I have been advocating for a while a peaceful & orderly handoff of the hegemony from the US to China, so we can maybe avoid winding up in the dustbin of history like the UK.

Oops, too late.

The half life - the time during which it comsumed over half of the % of the world’s energy as it did at its peak - of the British Empire was 1850-1952, peaking in 1900.

The half life of the US hegemony was 1889 to 2008, peaking in 1945.

In 2009, China’s energy consumption passed the US. “Within a few years, China will consume double the energy of the United States.

The American century is over. The Chinese century has begun.

I, for one, welcome our new Chinese hegemons.

Great follow-up article with the energy consumption graph for the USSR/Russia.
