So I figure I should clear the stack of unblogged books, of which there are 2:
- "Invisible Planets", edited and translates by Ken Liu, 2016, 415 pages. 13 Chinese short works of science fiction. There's not a bad story in the bunch. At the end there are 3 essays on how Chinese SF is different. The main differences I see are the presence of the Communist Party - kind of as the "spirit of China" maybe? - and the edginess of having developed so far and so fast recently.
- "Agency", by William Gibson, 2020, 326 pages. My 1st book published in the 2020s! Set in the same universe as his prior novel. There's not a lot of dramatic tension in the book, which I didn't mind. The characters are likable, the pacing more leisurely than I would expect from Gibson. Still, a satisfying and enjoyable read.
